Trader Joe’s Candy Cane Joe-Joe’s

traderjoescandycaneWe’ve all come to enjoy the traditional Oreo of chocolate wafers and vanilla cream center – except for me, I’ll pass on the milk and can settle for another cookie as a substitute. Come on, dunking the cookie just makes it a soggy mess!

Packed inside the Trader Joe’s Candy Cane Joe-Joe’s are mini crushed peppermint candy canes. It’s an interesting combination for the festive holidays, which makes this a seasonal product. It tastes like the classic Oreo cookie, but just not nearly as sweet, and of course, there’s a peppermint taste. The peppermint is a bit overpowering, especially afterwards, and I find that it leaves a lingering mint taste that I think would be okay for those that like mint chocolate ice cream? Can’t say I’m a big fan however.

These cookies really aren’t horrible, but rather, it’s just a combination I don’t find all that pleasant. Without the candy cane center, at least the chocolate wafer cookies are good. But that of course, would defeat the purpose. If there was less peppermint, maybe I wouldn’t mind so much, but the lingering mint aftertaste just makes it a bit too much.

Ratings and Details

Cost: $2.99 for 454 grams at Trader Joe’s
Value for Cost: Decent value.
Availability: USA.
Nutrition: For 2 cookies (28 grams), it’s only 140 calories and 6 grams of fat.
Overall: If you’re a big fan of peppermint, I’d say go for it. It would also be something interesting to have around for the holidays, but that’s pretty much it. I would eat the chocolate wafers on their own, but ditch that peppermint center.
